I ordered this TV, but it was damaged by UPS in transit and I never received it. Then I got a message that it (the order) was canceled and I got a credit. I called to say “just send me another one” and was told that I could not do that. So, I said forget it!!!!! M. Wunderlich

NOTE: this is a general review about dealing with Toshiba’s customer service center and their return policy. Should you have anything go wrong with your tv, this is what you can expect. . . .
We bought a TV/DVD combo from Toshiba as a gift from Santa last year for my 8-year old so that she could watch her Full House and Lizzie McGuire movies on it in her bedroom. Unfortunately, after 4 months, the tv’s picture stopped working. She told me to send it back to Santa, so off it went to our local authorized Toshiba repairman, as you cannot return these items to Amazon after a certain period of time. We were told by Toshiba that the tv was under full warranty for parts and service. The repairman said no. We would have to pay at least $80 in service repairs. Well, it’s been six months and we have yet to see our tv. The part that was supposedly broken was out of stock. Toshiba has sent out part after part after part. . . spending more in shipping and parts I’m sure than we actually paid for the tv. Now they are shipping out their 4th part. . . and we still have no tv and it’s November. NOTE: the Toshiba representatives were rude and their supervisor (Dave Thomson) was scripted and condescending. TOSHIBA DOES NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT HELP ITS CUSTOMERS.
My daughter got so upset that Santa didn’t return her tv that we had to buy her another tv a few months ago. Then, she overheard one of the numerous heated discussions between my husband and Toshiba. Every time my husband called, we were told the issue would be “escalated”. The representatives are scripted and said whatever they could to passify us. In the end, we were told by Toshiba’s supervisor (Dave Thomson) that this was their final decision. . . to just continue to keep trying to fix an inferior product with no hope that it may get fixed. By the time we get the tv back, if we get it back, it will no longer be under warranty.
In the end, with no return of her original tv and the numerous phone calls to/from Toshiba, my daughter finally got the clue and realized Santa doesn’t exist. Thanks Toshiba. MAY NO PARENT EVER RELY ON YOUR PRODUCT AGAIN! THE TECHNOLOGY IS LOUSY AND YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT! GIVEN HOW TIGHT CONSUMERS’ WALLETS ARE THIS SEASON, I HOPE PEOPLE LOOK PASSED YOUR BRAND AND SELECT A BETTER CHOICE.
FYI. . . When we purchased the tv, it was not made clear to us that it would be outdated within 14 months with the switch to digital.
Happy Holidays from a very dissatisfied customer.

My sister bought one of these. I used it during the week that I housesat for her. The picture is blurry, washed out, and lacks depth and detail. It has terrible viewing angle problems: the picture fades away if viewed at the wrong angle. DVDs watched using the built in player look like VHS. Adjusting the controls did not help at all. I compared the picture quality of her Toshiba LCD unit with her 10 year old Panasonic 27-inch picture tube TV. There was a night and day difference. Using the same source material, the 10 year old Panasonic tube TV looked MUCH better, and it was not even a high end unit in its day, only mid-range. This LCD TV is a waste of money. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Even the ancient console from the ’80s that my mother used to own had a better picture than this piece of junk.
Bring back the picture tube (CRT). Picture tube TVs have a far better picture than LCDs.
UPDATE: In the above comparisons, I watched regular definition material. I recently had the chance to view high definition material on this LCD. The picture still suffers from terrible viewing angle problems, but the picture quality did improve significantly. So I compared the high definition version of a channel on this LCD with the regular definition version of the same channel on the 10 year old Panasonic picture tube TV. The HIGH definition picture quality on this LCD is not quite as good as the REGULAR definition picture on the 10 year old picture tube TV! These LCD TVs are a scam! Bring back the picture tube (CRT).

I was pretty excited to get my new TV since I am deployed overseas in Iraq. Well after I received it, I found out it was 110V only. I can’t remember the last time I saw a LCD that was not dual voltage. In addition the connections connect out the back instead of down from the back. Not a big deal, but poor design in my opinion since you will need more clearance in the back to connect cables, no flat wall mounting.

The TV was purchased from amazon. com via Electronics Expo. Since it was not directly from amazon, we had to pay $29. 99 in shipping and handling (no free shipping deal). We ordered and paid for a 22 inch TV. We received in manufacturers box with shipping labels stuck to it a 19 inch TV. When we contacted Electronics Expo via email, we got a first reply asking for a lot of information, After providing that information via email, we got a reply whose tone said don’t do business with us. It said that they don’t accept return of TVs larger than 20 inches, that we must pay for any return shipping, that we had to put the manufacturers box inside of another box for shipping and we were directed to a website asking for even more information. Instead off doing that, we were able to get free return shipping after a lengthy phone call to Electronics Expo. When we finally received the 22 inch model, it did not function properly. This was confirmed with phone call to the Toshiba help line. Toshiba would correct the problem if we sent it to them, but they would not pay for shipping. Not knowing if we would be able to get Electronics Expo to agree to accept return of a 22 inch let alone pay for the shipment, we paid another $29. 42 to ship it to Toshiba. We bought the TV on 1/8/09 and don’t have it yet. Today is 2/9/09. It will probably take another week or two before we get it.
